CAHPERD STANDING COMMITTEES
GOVERNANCE AND STRUCTURE COMMITTEE
WHO?
The Governance and Structure Standing Committee shall be composed
of sevenmembers who have had experience at unit, region, district
orstate levels. Members shallbethe Immediate Past President
(Keith Johannes), the parliamentarian (Kathy Scott), representatives
from each of the fivedistricts: Northern (Rock Braithwaite), Southern
(Karen M. Johnson), Northern Central (Robin Reese), Bay (Scott
Springhorn) and South Central (Dianne Wilson-Graham). The
Executive Director (Quentin Christian) serves as an ex-officio,
non-voting member. District representatives shall be recommended
by each DistrictCoordinator for appointment by the President and
approval by the Board of Directors. The Chair (Robin Reese) and
Chair-Elect shall be appointed by the President and President-Elect
respectively, for approval by the Board of Directors. Members are
appointed for two-year terms. Two consecutive terms are not
recommended. Other members of the CAHPERD Administrative
Committee serve in ex-officio, non-voting positions.
WHAT?
The Governance and Structure Committee assists the Association
in facilitating efficient conduct of business and in accomplishing
professional objectives by:

Revising, clarifying and editing the
Constitution, Bylaws, and Codes whenever so authorized by the
House of Delegates.

Recommending revision, clarification or editing
whenever such changes would expedite the business of the Association.

Reviewing
operating codes of officers, divisions, sections and standing
committees for agreementwith the Constitution and Bylaws.

Assisting districts, regions and units in the
revision of their operating codes.

Serving in an advisory capacity to officers,
Board ofDirectors and House of Delegates, so as to prevent
violations of the Constitution and Bylaws.

Motivating officers, committee chairs and others
to develop operating codes and tokeep them up-to-date.
WHEN?
During the process of proposing a new structure for CAHPERD, the
Committee is meeting four to five times a year.
COMPARISON WITH THE CURRENT STRUCTURE:
The proposal suggests that the Governance and Structure Committee
and Constitution and Bylaws Committee merge into one committee.
