The California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD), founded in 1930, is a non-profit, voluntary membership corporation formed exclusively to promote the organizing and progress of school, community and statewide programs of health, physical education, recreation and dance which will embody such opportunities and which will insure the inclusion of such programs within the most appropriate philosophical and social context of life in California. Organization and Support CAHPERD is currently governed by its 3,200 members through individual participation, interest area involvement and geographical representation in 24 units, 18 regions and 5 districts which comprise the House of Regions. Special interests are represented in the House of Representatives which is composed of 6 division vice presidents, 6 vice presidents-elect, 10 section chairs and 10 section chairs-elect. The combined membership of these two houses comprise the House of Delegates. The 22-member Board of Directors is responsible for the financial and corporate affairs of the Association. CAHPERD is supported by member dues, revenue from conferences and workshops, Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart fund-raising, Journal/Times advertising, donations, grants and sponsorships.
