Girls and Women in Sport - Coach of the Year Award

 

 

The first annual Coach of the Year Award has been created to recognize an extraordinary individual who has positively influenced the female sport that he or she coaches.  The award recipient must be a CAHPERD member who has actively coached within the past 12 months.   This award is presented in recognition of a tremendous effort to model a positive image of coaching and the role of a coach in female sports.

 

 

Criteria

 

1.    Applicant must be a current CAHPERD member

2.    Applicant must have coached a girls and/or women’s sport within the last 12 months. 

3.    Applicant must clearly demonstrate an attitude of fair play, and consistently present a positive image of coaching and the role of a coach.

4.    Applicant must display respect for officials, opponents and athletes.

5.    Applicant must motivate players to learn and play to the best of their ability.

6.    Applicant must demonstrate concern for the all-around development of the athlete.

Does the coach clearly demonstrate an attitude of fair play, and consistently present a positive image of coaching and the role of a coach?  Describe how the coach models fair play, respect for others and graciousness?  Does the coach teach the above to players and supporters? 

 

 

  1. Player Development:

Are players motivated to learn and play to the extent of their ability and capability?   Provide evidence of how the coach instills enthusiasm, creativity, independence, self-confidence and risk taking? 

 

 

  1. Personal Coaching Development:

Explain how the coach continues to learn and perfect skills and abilities? 

 

 

  1. Citizenship:

Does the coach positively influence sport beyond his/her own team? Is the coach open to suggestions or other ideas?

 

     5.   How does the coach demonstrate concern for the all around development of the student-athlete?
