Sporting opportunities for females
should be based on the philosophy of “a sport for every
girl."
Advocacy programs and legislative efforts
should focus on providing females of all ages, races, creeds,
ethnic origins, economic levels, physical and mental abilities,
and interests, with opportunities to fully participate in quality
sport and physical activity programs.
Females should be provided with opportunities
to develop essential skills required to be leaders in sport
and physical activity.
Females should achieve equality with
males, not only as participants but also as leaders and representatives,
in all organizations responsible for sport conduct and policy
development.
Women currently in sport leadership
positions should be encouraged to formulate networks, develop
support systems, and mentor those girls or women interested
in pursuing careers or positions in sport or physical activity.
All female and male students in California
schools and colleges should have equal access to intra/interscholastic
sport programs.
All female and male coaches of school
athletic teams should be credentialed by an accrediting organization
or agency.
With the support of the CAHPERD Girls
and Women in Sport Vice President and the California State
Coordinator for National Girls and Women in Sport Day, all
girls in California schools should be provided the opportunity
to be involved in a NGWS Day event.
CAHPERD should identify, promote and
support research projects that focus on reducing the inequity
gap between males and females in sport participation and sport
leadership.
CAHPERD should identify, promote and
support educational programs designed to enhance the political
action skills of women so they may become effective advocates
for girls and women in sport.
