Looking Ahead: A Message from Joanie Verderber

In March 2010 at the CAHPERD State Conference in Ontario, I spoke of two goals I would embark upon if elected: 1) to guide the Association using a visionary leadership model and 2) to promote professional excellence. The implementation of these goals for 2011-2012 has begun. During my term as president, we shall identify the future directions of CAHPERD by defining our visions, goals, and plan of implementation.

 Visionary leadership requires the participation of all stakeholders. As a member, you will be asked to identify the future directions you feel are important for our association. Three different formats for input shall be provided: face-to-face meetings, conference calls/video conferencing, and electronic input via surveys/bulletin board posting. Individuals have been invited to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Board of Directors approved those appointments at their June meeting.

 If you would like to provide input to the Committee, please check the CAHPERD web site for announcements of all stakeholder-input opportunities. Also, be sure that CAHPERD has your email address so that you may receive announcements via email blasts. Tentative face-to-face meeting dates are July 29-30, 2011 at Cal Poly Pomona and January 12-14, 2012 in Santa Clara.  A Strategic Planning Workshop will be held at the Conference in Pasadena in February 2012. The conference theme and information follow; please reflect upon how you may contribute to raising our level of professional excellence.

Just saying the name “Pasadena” conjures up visions of roses, a parade (unified body moving in the same direction), the Rose Bowl (team collaboration) and New Year’s Day (resolutions and new beginnings). Mark your calendar and make a commitment to support CAHPERD as we put Professional Excellence on Parade.
