This year, the agenda will include 3 FULL days of programming - Thursday 8am - Saturday 5:30pm.

CAHPERD invites University students (future professional members) to apply to be a volunteer for the 2018 CAHPERD Conference in Oakland, CA, February 22-24. University students volunteering at the conference will receive FREE conference registration! Click here to apply. Additional Cost Program Items:
Self Defense Certification will be held on Thursday, 8am - 4pm. The cost will be an additional $99.
We are offering 2 recreational activities as well:
Kayaking on Thursday - $20 per person 8:30-10:30am The timing includes 30 minutes of travel time on each end of the activity. Activity is located at Lake Merritt, 1 mile from the Marriott.
Transportation is not included.
Rock Climbing on both Thursday (12:30pm-3:30pm) and Friday (2:00pm - 5:00pm) $40 per person. The timing includes 30 minutes of travel time on each end of the activity. Activity is located 0.6 miles from the Marriott (15 mins walking). Transportation is not included.
CEUs will be offered through San Jose State. You can purchase 1 or 2 CEUs depending on how many hours of the conference you attend. The cost per unit is $60. There will be a table in the registration area, at the conference, to sign up and pay. Transcripts will be available from San Jose State approximately 3 weeks after the conference end.

Amanda Stanec, Ph.D.
Founder: Move, Live, Learn
Dr. Amanda Stanec was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada where she attended and played soccer for St. Francis Xavier University. Upon moving to the US, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where she attained a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in Physical Education and Sport Psychology. Completely devoted to her field, she enrolled in a PhD program in Kinesiology within the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, where she was recognized as the outstanding doctoral student in her graduating year (2006). More recently, Amanda was honored as the 2016 young alumna of the year by St. Francis Xavier University.
Further achievements include the publication of more than twenty articles, as well as co-authoring several book chapters related to physical education, sport, health, and wellness topics. Most recently, Amanda has led projects on behalf of the International Olympic Committee, the Association of the Summer Olympic International Federations, and the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation.
Amanda's most important work is, along with her partner Jim, raising their three kids in an active and nature-filled way.
.Martha James-Hassan, Ph.D.
Martha James-Hassan is a researcher, teacher, and leader with nearly 25 years of experience in urban education.
Dr. James-Hassan is a member of the faculty at Morgan State University, as an assistant professor in the School of Education and Urban Studies. Dr. James-Hassan earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Kinesiology in 1993, her Master’s in Inquiry Education from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2002, and her Doctorate in Critical Pedagogy from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2009. Her current research agenda involves investigating in-service teacher professional development, cultural fluency, and interdisciplinary education. She is considered a national expert in the Common Core State Standards and equity.
